What is ARN?

AMFI Notified Regarding Mandatory Online Process to Apply for ARN and EUIN and Discontinuation of Biometric Process
On 17th Sep 2024, AMFI issued an important notice regarding the mandatory online process to apply for ARN and EUIN and the discontinuation of Biometric Process for the grant of ARN for Mutual Fund Distributors.
Here the key changes by AMFI in 2024:
1. Discontinuation of physical biometric & mandatory submission of Aadhaar for KYDC process and it has been decided to:
- Discontinue the physical biometric for KYC compliance for the issuance of ARN;
- Make it compulsory for ARN applicants or Mutual Fund Distributors to either provide a PAN and Aadhar or have a valid KYC with the KRAs that is KYC with Validated Status for the KYC process;
2. AMFI Registration for ARN to be allowed only through online mode:
- Mandatory for individual applicants to apply for AMFI registration (New ARN & EUIN) only through online mode to facilitate PAN & Aadhar authentication online easily & discontinued the paper-based process.
Note: This was already implemented on 1st Oct 2024.

- Pass the NISM series V-A Exam;
- Senior citizen must appear Continuing Professional Education (CPE).

The following are the documents required for Online AMFI Registration in India:
- ID proof (Adhar Card, Driving License, etc.);
- Copy of PAN Card;
- Address proof of the applicant;
- KYC acknowledgement;
- NISM Certificate;
- Educational qualifications;
- Bank account details (cancelled cheque).
Online Process to get AMFI Registration Certificate in India
The following is the step-by-step process for Online AMFI Registration:
Step 1: First you need to visit the AMFI official website.
Step 2: Then, click on the “Distributor Corner” and select Online Registration & Renewal of ARN and EUIN.
Step 3: After that click on “Register on AMFI” button and enter your PAN details & mobile number.
Step 4: Then you need to submit all the necessary documents for the verification.
Step 5: Complete the e-kyc process & pay the registration fee online
Step 6: Once done, submit the application and download the acknowledgement receipt.
Note: Once the NISM Certificate and application is submitted, AMFI issues the ARN within 2 weeks after the verification.
Renewal of AMFI Registration
All the ARN holders must apply for AMFI Registration Renewal 6 months before the expiry day. You can check the steps to renew your ARN Number below:
- First visit the AMFI website online and select the renewal option.
- Then enter the details for KYD verification;
- Upload vital documents like PAN Card, Aadhar Card, etc.
- Pay the renewal fees online.
The following are some rules for Mutual Fund Distribution under AMFI:
- Validity: ARN for entities is valid for 3 years;
- Single ARN: No Mutual Fund Distributor can hold more than 1 ARN;
- Empanelment: Distributors must get empanelment with AMCs after getting their ARN.
